LET'S DESTIGMATIZE TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH
In a society where mental health is a stigma, people battling with their own skeletons are considered weak and overwhelming because the pain means you’re lagging somewhere than the others.
In 21st century India, the picture is no different, still gripped within the stereotypes, people take it long to understand that mental health is part of your well-being like physical care. We at Girl-up DCAC took it upon ourselves to make sure we can make as many people as possible aware of the situation and help them realize that caring for yourself isn’t being selfish or running away from your responsibilities; its loving yourself and healing with all that you’ve got. It’s understanding that you can be at peace and not always bear the burden of your surroundings and that it is okay to feel pressured because of trying situations. It’s understanding that we all need to help each other feel our best selves.

A need to educate and make aware.
Indian society is still prone to orthodox or conventional ideologies and this takes a toll on the mental well-being of many Indian out there. The pandemic has left us exhausted as to how should we cope and react. Severe bouts of anxiety and depression clouds the minds as we desperately try to find some semblance. People with poor mental heath have been pushed too far into this hole. And rightfully so. Being left on our own in hard times is difficult and it is even harder to deal with it all alone.
You can and will overcome it!
We at Girl Up DCAC understood the severity of the situation and initiated a project, Candor Convo on June 14. It is an effort to encourage everyone to be informed, understand and encourage conversation around the destigmatizing of mental health issues. Under this umbrella project we covered all the issues surrounding mental health- depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. We also talked about the issues surrounding the increase in mental health disorders during lockdown and pandemic.

To educate people and create awareness, we conducted a webinar called Unwinding the self with counselling psychologist Ms. Amarjeet Kaur , who taught the attendees various techniques to control our thoughts and gave an insight on how to look out for symptoms. It was a huge success.
